Humane Society Field Trip: Learning, Giving, and Growing Together

Our teens recently spent the day at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, where they had the chance to learn about pet adoption, animal care, and how the organization supports families across our community.

The visit began with a tour of the facility, where youth got an inside look at how the Humane Society operates — from caring for animals in need to helping them find their forever homes. They met dedicated staff members who shared what it takes to keep the shelter running, including feeding, cleaning, and ensuring every animal receives love and attention while they wait to be adopted.

Of course, one of the highlights of the day was meeting the animals themselves! Our teens spent time interacting with dogs and cats, learning about their stories, and even helping to feed them. The hands-on experience helped our youth understand the importance of compassion, patience, and empathy — not only for animals but also for the people who care for them.

To give back, The Foundation WA donated nine boxes of pet supplies to the Humane Society’s CHOW program, which provides food and essential items to local families and their pets. This act of service reminded our teens that small gestures of kindness can have a big impact — whether for a neighbor, a friend, or a furry companion in need.

We’re grateful to the Humane Society for welcoming our youth and sharing their mission of care and connection. Field trips like this one help our teens explore the many ways they can contribute to their community while learning valuable lessons about responsibility, teamwork, and compassion.

Together, we’re building a generation of changemakers — one act of kindness at a time.
