Celebrating Culture and Sustainability for Hispanic Heritage Month

Sharing our cultures is one of the most powerful ways we connect and build understanding. Whether through food, music, dance, or even gardening, these traditions tell the stories of who we are — and remind us of the beauty in our community’s diversity.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, youth from The Foundation WA were invited by Latinos Unidos y Floreciendo and the Seattle Seahawks to a special cultural gathering at the Hertiage Farm. The event brought together local leaders, families, and young people to honor the deep traditions and lasting impact of Hispanic culture.

Our teens experienced traditional Aztec and Hispanic dances, learning the meaning and history behind each movement. They enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by a local vendor — complete with fresh salsa made from vegetables grown right on the farm.

A community panel also shared insights on sustainability and local farming, encouraging youth to reflect on ways to reduce food waste and care for the environment. With help from Blitz, the Seahawks’ beloved mascot, teens learned about trench composting and even sampled ripe tomatoes straight from the vine.

The day was filled with laughter, learning, and connection — blending cultural celebration with hands-on environmental education.
Events like this give our youth the opportunity to experience new perspectives, see their own cultures reflected, and take pride in the diverse community they’re part of.

We’re deeply grateful to Latinos Unidos y Floreciendo and the Seattle Seahawks for creating such a meaningful experience. Together, we’re nurturing the next generation’s appreciation for culture, community, and sustainability.
